Race and slavery in Islamic societies has been one of the most neglected
issues in the historiography of the Middle East for many years. Bernard Lewis, a
distinguished scholar of the Middle East, has dealt with the issue by writing a
book Race and Slavery in the Middle East This paper is going to examine the
subject of race and slavery in general sense according to his assertions in this
book and his critics in the reviews of the book.
